<VV> Follow up to - Trouble getting Corvair home from car show

Last week I poster the message below. I thank everyone for their
suggestions.
Based on a suggestion by Henry Kaczmarek, I removed the starter and examined
it and the ring gear on the flywheel. Neither was perfect, but neither was
terrible enough to make the loud metal on metal BANG that I got when trying
to start. I finally got my mechanic to make a house call. His conclusion was
that due to weak battery and excessive advance I was getting the engine to
fire backwards. I actually am having a hard time understanding how that
resulted in the BANG, but charging the battery and reducing the advance
seemed to work
