<VV> CORVAIR ENGINE HEAT

I still can't decide if I will drive my '69 Convert. #2891 (the same car I drove to Jacksonville last summer) to Iowa or if I will drive my '63 Rampside. My question for the group is if I drive my Rampside, would it be beneficial to drive with my upper engine cover OFF? Would that force more cooling air into the engine? Has anyone done this before (with the intentions of keeping the engine cooler)? Thanks to all out there in VV.
