a good whack on the top shoe retaining pin should tip the plate loose from  
the axle bearing shield.
a couple of hits to the side of the flange may also do it , but dont hit it 
 so hard you damage / dent  it.
use a steering wheel puller to get the yoke off the axle , after removing  
the bolt and washer under the ujoint. put the bolt back in without the 
washer so  you do not damage the threads in the axle. a few drops of blaster on 
the axle  near the flange and in the area of that bolt  wont hurt..
