<VV> "de-tuning" a 110

In fact, if you mill out the step and otherwise enlarge the chamber a little, you could probably keep the comp ratio, run more advance, and although still a premium fuel engine, get both more power AND better gas mileage. Not to mention lower head temps.
A lot of people bitch about added cost of premium, to the point they won't buy a car that uses it, even if it gets great gas mileage! I've had Suburban owners diss me because my 300ZXTT requires premium fuel, even though mine gets over 10 MPG better gas mileage than their Road Queen! LOL

Dennis and Randy,
It might work in DE-tuning the engine enough to enable you to use regular
instead of premium gas. However, by reducing the compression ratio, enlarging
the "squish" and retarding the timing you would also considerably reduce the
efficiency of the engine so your gas mileage would drop. And it would most
likely drop MORE than the extra cost of buying premium over regular (probably
about 8 to 10% more per gallon). In addition, you would lose some power under
heavy throttle acceleration, so IMHO, it's hardly worth even considering.
How's my explanation, Dennis?<GGGGG>

Frank Burkhart, will respond to this post, he has a good way of explaining
why that isn't a good idea.

Would stacking 2 base gaskets and retarding the timing a bit be sufficient
to enable one to use regular in a stock 110 PG? Also, what about carb jet
size?
Thanks, Randy
