To my fellow Virtual Vair Members:

Can I ask you all to please consider the following facts with respect to this carpet order issue with Clark’s Corvair Parts?

Firstly and most importantly I want to thank those of you who have emailed me kind words of support with my carpet purchasing problems, but I also want to attempt to bring some level of order to this issue of purchasing non standard carpet from Clarks Corvairs.

I want to start by pointing out that I have very high regard and will continue to have a very high regard for the outstanding customer service provided by Clark’s. Anyone of you who has purchased parts from Clark’s would agree with me when I say that “Clark’s simply wrote the book on customer service”.

That said. It is Clark’s well earned reputation for outstanding customer service that makes it all the more surprising to receive their poor response to my carpet order particularly when my request is so simple. I am not asking a great deal. I am only asking that the heel pad not be attached.

Here are the facts,

1. About 2 or 3 months back I wrote to Clarks and asked Clark’s if they could supply a set of 1965-69 Corvair molded carpets without the heel pad attached. The answer was a very clear ‘YES’ no problem the molded carpets could and would be supplied in this way.

2. Clark’s reply did not surprise me and was expected as I have in the past purchased molded carpets from the United States without the heel pad attached for other vehicles. Obtaining carpet in this form has never been a problem in the past and I fail to see why it should suddenly now be a problem.

3. I now understand that holes are not precut for steering columns, accelerator pedals or headlamp switches. So this is no longer an issue.

4. The single and only difference between a standard left hand drive molded 65-69 Corvair carpet & a right hand drive version of that carpet is the location of the all important heel pad. Apart from the location of the heel pad the carpet is in every other respect, identical for LHD & RHD applications.

5. In fairness to Clark’s they did offer to make up a set of non-molded carpets, but if I am going to use non molded carpets then I might as well obtain this carpet locally in Australia. There is simply no point in shipping anything else but correct molded carpets.

6. I did offer to pay Clark’s extra to obtain these molded carpets and did stress that I don’t mind waiting even 2 months to obtain them if I have to. I have never at any time expected Clark’s to have these carpets in stock waiting on a shelf for me.

I sincerely hope that Clark’s will consider the above and then in due course supply the carpets without the heel pad attached.

Regards

Carl L. Kelsen
