A rear engine car, designed for today's market, is a fascinating concept.
Not sure how GM would do it, ............................

SMART car is RWD, rear engine 6 (divided by 2) cylinders.
Intended market ? Well most of the initial dealers (selected by Penske !) were Mercedes.

Many news stories describe the SMART's market as "fashionable." Certainly that generally is the kind of market where prices are higher than the product justifies. Nice work when you can get it. When the Mustang first came out, it was style that sold it. It was fashionable to own. Not too different than today's MINI, although that has the rep as being real fun to drive. too.
