Thanks for posting this link. I am not planning to build a Corvair
trike, but it's always interesting to look over someone else's design
and thought processes.
On that note, what was this guy thinking? Is it just me, or does the
side view make it look like the seat is a good 4 feet from the
handlebars? If the guy who built this can sit in the seat *and* reach
the handlebars *and* make a sharp right turn, then he surely has to wear
high-heeled shoes just to keep his knuckles from dragging on the ground.
And, how is the shift linkage going to work? There's a Hurst-style
shifter in the pan between the seat and the handlebars, but I can't see
any linkage or cables going back to the transmission. I started
wondering how he solved the problem of getting the linkage past the
engine when I noticed that the motor is installed backwards, vis a vis
how it would normally go in a car. The seller lists the trike as "not
running". Given the backward installation of the drive train, I have to
wonder if ever has been running. When he starts it up for the first
time, do you think he's going to discover that he's got a 1-spd
transmission with 4 different "reverse" gears?
Finally, IMHO, there's a fairly amusing "WTF" factor going on with the
whole design. The specs indicate that it's about as long as a
Greenbrier. Yikes. What would someone do with a rig like this? Zoom
down to the Dairy Queen for a chocolate cone? Drop the kids off at
middle school? Take it out on Halloween dressed up as Herman Munster?
Wouldn't you draw more attention rolling down the lane in a really nice
stock Rampside? Or am I missing something?
