<VV> Hole in parking light

Wood or felt.  I think they has a felt in the hole to let air go in and out.

There is a small hole in each of my front park light housings 
(directional, if you prefer).. someone had stuffed a wooden plug in them 
in the past.  What are they for?  Do they need to be plugged?
