<VV> starter/electrical problems part 2

 in addition to my previous problems/ thoughts, could the ignition switch be at fault? i am wondering, because with the key off, the noise continued and the generator light stayed lit. also, if i need to tow this car for service, it would be over a distance of less than a mile. it is a powerglide trans. what is this procedure? from  the front? from the rear? in neutral? thanks again, jim
