i remember when I got transferred to upstate new york (Binghamton area)
in the early nineties. Never really lived anywhere outside of Texas
before that. Sold all of my Corvair stuff (young kids, moving almost two
thousand miles, ....) bought a new Accord and a Mercury Sable (for $300
(my salt beater)), and off we went. Was amused the next year when I took
that car in for it's first "real" inspection. They actually placed the
car on a lift and inspected the underside. As the lift was lowering, i
heard a load snap coming from the front of the car. I think the
inspector heard it too, but he had all ready been over that part and was
not going back. Noticed the car sitting at a funny attitude as it came
back to earth. Paid for the sticker and drove off very carefully.
Ipulled over a block away. Turns out the top of the passenger shock had
sheared off. Drove my 3 shocked car to the first FLAPS I saw and bought
a new shock. Made it home and changed the shock. Kept that car for 3
more years, had it transported back to Texas and sold it for $300. Only
car I ever had where I came close to breaking even.
Go figure....
