I think we should all thank RN for taking a role in making ALL cars safer. That book was nothing more than an indictment on industrialization. 1 Chapter was on the early model Corvair. Whereas didn't he write an entire book on the (lack of) safety of the air cooled VW?

>Nader admitted that he was a young attorney trying to make a name for himself. It was unfortunate but NOT a coincidence that the very first chapter was dedicated to the Corvair. Nader's facts were flawed based on a pre-production memo of the swing axle. The swing axle that was produced featured a "swivel bearing" at the wheel end of the axle. So although there was still tow in it was limited by the length of the extended shock and/or the optional strap.
> Anyone who has seen the videos of the engineers trying to roll a Corvair should have been sufficient evidence to disprove Nader's claim.
> I attribute the cause most if not ALL of the accidents to poor maintenance (incorrect/low tire pressure) or a loose nut behind the wheel (driving unsafe for conditions.)
> In the end, anyone who still remembers Nader's book thinks it was all about the Corvair. Nader still gets waaayyy too much credit for the Corvair's demise. It was GM's fault.
> The irony of all of this is that we should THANK NADER for causing GM to continue the Corvair until 1969 instead of pulling the plug in 1966. THANKS RALPHIE!!!
