<VV> Retard timing

Last winter I had the motor rebuilt in my 63 Corvair Conv. I got the car back last March
and since than I have put 12,000 miles on the Car. I live in Northern Virginia and Premium
Gas is 25 to 30 cents per gallon more that regular. Would it hurt the motor if I retarded the
timing enough that I could use regular gas and it would not Ping. I get about 22 MPG average
The difference between using Permium and regular was about $165.00. I am 75 and retired
so every little bit helps. I hope to drive it more this year. I want to wear out the car before I 
wear out.
