I'm no expert on steering boxes, but couldn't you just cut the shaft to the length you need and then add the proper coupler? So then a 65 box becomes a doable option for the later boxes by cutting the shaft. 

I sold all my 65 boxes on eBay and they were all bought by guys doing the hot rod conversion. Each one told me the same thing, cut the shaft down to "this much" and it will fit in the U.S. Postal shipping box. Shipping was easy and cheaper that way.
