IF you have the idle too fast with the mechanical linkage screws , or  
chokes still on , idle mixture screws will have very little , if any effect on  
running. if things are correct , running that mixture screw in should stall 
the  motor.
if no changes from mixture screw , maybe you need to clean those ports with 
 a blast of air. maybe even soak the carbs and kit them.
in otherwords , synchronize the carbs first , then adjust mixture.
