One reasonably accurate way to see is to peel up a bit of the rear 
backlight glass gasket ( if it will peel up a bit without cracking ) 
and look for a parting line.   Repaints seldom ever end up with the 
backlight glass removed, so under that gasket is likely original 
paint.   Just look close for evidence of the car having more paint applied.
