<VV> Battery charger with 50 Amp "Engine Start" enough ?

Charles,
You should take off the starter, then separate the solenoid. Disassembly the solenoid taking off first, both 3/8" nuts, then the "S" nut. After this, unscrew the 2 small bolts take off the bakelite cap, tapping on both 3/8" and the "S" bolts. Take it off carefully and now you can see and take off the copper disk. It will be full of burnt marks all around by the upper side but the lower side could be like new. If so, reverse it's position on the shaft. If the inner sides of both 3/8" copper bolts are not badly burnt, you can clean them scraping with the end of a broken saw or a flat jewelers file. This is my way to make solenoids last twice as I don`t earn dollars but pesos.

2nd suspect is the starter's armature where the only thing you can easily make is cleaning the multiple contacts where the 4 brushes ride on. Check the size of brushes and flat springs condition.

If this looks as too much work, look for a good starter.

PS. Don't forget to clean bellhousing and starter nose areas where both make contact, if they are not clean you can get slow cranking even with a good starter and a fully charged bateery. As usual... don't ask me how I know it.
