   About the speedo cable....  I assume you have dissconected it from the cluster, if so, try turning it with your fingers. If it turns easily, the cable is broken (most probable). If it doesn´t turn or is pretty hard to turn, maybe the plastic driven gear (in the diff.) is worn out.
