The  Y-harnesses are not SCCA legal for road racing, but for safety it 
REALLY  matters where you attach that rear strap. On a Corvair, if you 
attach it  
to the rear package shelf, you are likely okay.

As Dave and Seth pointed out, safety and liability (and insurance  
cancellation worries for accident victims) are always concerns.  That's why  I only 
pass on the Fisher Body belt instructions because at least at the  time of 
manufacture they met safety codes.
