Thank you Ned for calling us experts.I'm not sure about that but in all candor, I'll tell you it's a BUNCH of work. Not to downgrade autocrosses but the high speed inherent in time trials brings a whole new set of issues. We in the NECC have been working together for years. Some of us for more than 20 years so many times things get done with no apparent effort. It is a skill set that took us years to develop.
As for time trials in conjunction with the Cedar Rapids; it's not settled. In addition to the distance from Blackhawk farms to the convention site; the tepid responses to our BeaveRun and Roebling Road events has made us cautious. We barely escaped a multi-thousand dollar loss at BeaveRun because of our good relations with the track management.
We were particularly concerned that the Roebling Road event did not draw more drivers. For all most everyone going to the convention we we on the way. The host hotel was two minutes form I95 and the track ten minutes form there. Still we just broke even.
If we do a convention event next year, we will probably require early payment so we can cancel the track if the numbers indicate a loss.

IMO the track that the Iowa guys use for Fire and Ice is way too small for
a NECC type time trial.
CORSA does not sanction this type of event because CORSA does not have the
insurance to cover it. NECC is not an official CORSA chapter. They are
experts in setting up and executing these TT events. It is best to just not get
in their way. From what I've seen, except for the Corvair Olympics, the TT
in conjunction with the convention is the biggest NECC event. I'm sure
Brian will correct me if I'm wrong.
There are two road course track reasonable close to Cedar Rapids, Mid
America in Omaha and Blackhawk Farms west of Chicago. NECC has used Blackhawk
before, so if I'd have to guess, they'll go there again. We'll just have to
see what the good folks at NECC come up with.

I would like to open dialogue on the possibility of getting some type of
Road Course Time Trials event to be held in conjunction with next years
national in Cedar Rapids. I understand the amount of time and or effort
involved in such an endeavor. I am not trying to get various groups
pointing
fingers! If you to point fingers point them at me! I am a great target! My
goal is simple! Find a way to promote and enjoy the Corvair. Racing and or
high performance Corvairs are on the rise! So with that said here is what
I
perceive to be the list of "things that will need to happen before this
event can occur. Please bear in mind I am by no means an expert on creating
an event of this magnitude!
1. Is there a local track within reasonable distance to the Convention
site?
2. Will Corsa ever step up to sanction such an event or with the
assistance of other clubs who have such experience?
3. Based on recent Corvair "racing" activity in the area will there be
enough local help?
4. Would there be greater involvement at the national as a result of
some type or Time Trial?
5. This line is for other questions I have not considered (yours
perhaps).
Like many who would like to bring a car to the national, it boils down to 3
maybe 4 runs at an autocross.
That is a lot of effort for the miles traveled!
Regardless of your stance on this issue, I would like to hear your thoughts
Thank You!
