<VV> Screeching Noise

Hi,

 

I've never had a fan bearing go before now but out of the blue my 110 is
emitting a loud screeching noise at a fast idle, but only after the engine
fully warmed up. 

 

The engine is in an Ultravan and the engine bay is quite cramped so I can't
tell whether it's the fan bearing , the idler bearing or the alternator. I
tried using a piece of tubing as  stethoscope to localise it but that didn't
help.

 

Does a failing fan bearing actually squeal and if so, how long do I have
before it fails totally? I'm asking because we are supposed to be leaving
for a 150 mile camping trip tomorrow and I'm trying to get a sense of this
as a noisy nuisance or a show stopper for the trip.
