The chapter "insurance and benefit" filing fee was statrted back in 1998 as
a means to encourage chapters to be 100% CORSA membership without mandating
CORSA membership -- the choice is the chapters -- require memberhsip or pay
a insurance and benefit fee
This HAS been discussed before on this forum and the Chapters list -- every
6 months -- like electic vs manual fuel pumps. (i have notes from 2-2008,
9-2008, 3-2009 and 9-2009) Mandtory membership is discussed regularly with
a preference to encouragement to join vs requiring.
Issues with charging chapters and the filing fee itself is outlined and
answered in the Open Forum of the June 2009 Communique. The insurance and
benefit fee for non 100% CORSA membership was raised this year to $50. Not
a huge amount, but for some smaller chapters, it is a lot.
A sliding scale has been discussed at both the financial committee meetings
and board meetings.
Oh -- At least ONE other national club does not require local members to be
national club members -- --from their web site "The Model A Ford Club of
America (MAFCA) owes its phenomenal growth and success to the achievements
of individual chapters. It is the chapter that puts club membership on a
personal level. The policy of the National organization toward chapters is
fairly simple. Except for requiring all chapter officers or governing body
to be National members, the National club will not interfere with the
internal affairs of any chapter club."
Another benefits for chapters besides insurance include publicity for their
events -- in the Calendar listing as well as other ads that focus on others
in the Corvair community -- I have traveled long distances to attend some of
these after reviewing the Calendar listing.
The Chapter email list is a good for sharing information amongst chapters
VV and the chapters -- are a prime recruiting tool for both chapters and the
national club. It is nice to "sample" the product before joining.
Fastvairs and FC are yahoo groups with no direct affliation with CORSA or
any specific chapter. Corvair Center is sponsored by the San Diego Corvair
club <a CORSA chapter>
