Perhaps building interest in the conventions would be more effective.

There was a day, long ago, when CORSA's primary interests were in the Concours. There was NO street division. Convention attendance was dismal at best especially when one considers the member to participant ratio. CORSA had failed to realize the Concours was the icing on the cake ... they needed to build a foundation to support the Concours but they did not understand that would require providing something for EVERYONE! After much effort to overcome their resistance a place was allowed for street driven vehicles. Attendance grew dramatically but, CORSA still did not learn the lesson. In the world of today nostalgia is king ... everyone looks back at the better times of the past and as a result the old car hobby is growing in leaps and bounds. Except at CORSA. Reports from the chapters would lead one to believe their local shows are getting bigger and better. The Detroit Area Corvair Club Homecoming reached attendance numbers in 2009 to equal those of the early 80s.

Perhaps it would behoove the CORSA Board to concentrate their attention on developing convention guidelines that would provide something for EVERYONE ... and make sure EVERY convention adheres to those directions to INSURE building CORSA's reputation for consistency. Examples have been set but follow through has been non existent.

Thanks for your comments added to those of others c oncerned.

I have requested board of directors study Concours recommendations as primary topic at a
board meeting, and hope that president Mahler will acknowledge.

I have asked anyone for breakdown by classes for recent conventions and been advised that
such numbers are not readily available.

However for the benefit of the board, convention committee and concours committtee, the
following are yearly entries in concours reported to me.

Jacksonville 45
            Ventura 38
Detroit 57
Buffalo 60
            Portland 36
Lexington 70
Carlisle 77
            Flagstaff 37
Chicago 73
Daytona 68

General observation shows steady decline from Carlisle 77 to Jacksonville 45.

The committees and board should be concerned about how to reverse the trend with special
promotions or rule changes.

With a base of nearly 4,800 CORSA members,
45 entries is LESS THAN ONE PER CENT.

CORSA is reported to be in the red and Jacksonville convention attendance was said to be
the lowest in 25 years.

Perhaps a concours buildup could reverse the convention decline.

I think it is worth looking at.

Regards,

Jack
