I've always wondered  why no one has ever set up a FC to actually corner 
with more  finesse?

Larry Claypool had a Greenbriar, slightly lowered, which was very  
impressive on the autocross course. No wheels left the ground during his run,  and a 
bunch of Corvair cars had slower times.
