If you are going the concours route then I say keep the generator, but if  
you want to enjoy driving it with your new stereo I'd recommend switching to 
the  alternator.  It would be cheaper (especially because you have the 
parts),  more dependable and lighter (weight and brighter lights).  Peace of 
mind  always adds to the driving experience with an old car.
