Actually, as of 2009, most GM cars are pretty good looking. Although the Poncho G8 is pretty bland for what it is.
And even mechanically, the engineering has come a long way. GM's biggest challenge: Their reputation in the marketplace is pretty bad.

I disagree completely. I really like the Cadillac CTS, the C6
Corvette, and the current Malibu. They're great cars too.
