If one were to graft a more modern automatic (read, more speeds), there are better donors than the TH350. A Ford C4 is easier to adapt, the Miata 4 speed auto is easier to adapt, etc.
Or, use a Porsche automatic, ready to go! Just reverse the engine, etc. In the end, probably less work than adapting an auto to the Corvair diff. Not to mention the Corvair PG is a VERY short tranny, other autos may be too long to fit within the body.
Then there's the whole list of modern ECM shifted automatics. Which, there are now stand alone controllers to enable them!

Coming from one who doesn't remember the original thread---clue me in as to
exactly WHAT Pinky's transaxle consisted of..Evidently it was a custom or
highly modified unit, but what???
Or, some enterprising soul could hop down to his machine shop with a
GM Turbo-350 and mortify it to work with a 'Vair PG differential.
Sounds like a winner, but would it be modified rather than mortified? I
don't think GM engineers would be mortified if the job was done right.
