I'm pretty sure Seth Emerson will weigh in on this one. Seth was
instrumental in getting FR to reproduce the Corvair quick box. I bought
mine along with the necessary adapter from him about 4 years ago. The box
is plenty tight from the factory. The problem is sometimes they are not at
absolute top-dead center when installed. By design, the Corvair and other
roller bearing boxes from the sixties, all have more play in them when you
are actually turning the wheel. That play disappears when the box is
returned to TDC. If your car was out of alignment when the box was
installed, then the box is likely not at TDC. You need to remove the drag
link, get the box to TDC and then realign the tie rods as necessary to fit
the "pitman" arm. I had to do this a couple of times before I got it right,
and I think I may still be off a degree or two. (Actually, my wife thinks
I'm off by about 180 degrees, but that's a discussion for another time.)
