I've used
the water trick before (on an old Chevy Caprice wagon not on the Vair) and
it worked quite well.

 Anyone with ANY  common sense will never hurt an engine by using water...


 As long as the engine is warmed up... the water will turn to steam before entering cylinders...  but you knew that!
