David, My 66 Conv had that problem when I got it and it was coming in
under the chrome pieces at the top of the windshield. I removed them and
sealed it up with a sealer and have had no problem since. It's worth a look if
you haven't already looked there. Ken Clark
David,
I had a similar problem with my '66 and a '65 convertible owned by a
friend. On both of those cars the rubber weatherstrip area at the front frame
was the culprit. On my '66 the weatherstrip was a new reproduction piece
that was too dense and couldn't conform to the shallow channel in the chrome
pieces at the top of the windshield frame. A new piece of weatherstripping
from another vendor solved that (along with adjusting the top catches so
they pulled the top frame evenly up on the windshield frame header seating
the weatherstrip in the chrome channel). On the '65 a previous owner or
mechanic had added black caulk to the top of the chrome pieces and the bits
that remained made it impossible for the weatherstrip to seal properly until
it was all cleaned out. Then the weatherstrip had a clean, smooth surface
to seat against. Again, the top was adjusted so the catches pulled it
evenly onto the chrome header pieces.
In both cases the leaks came in around the catches and sat in the left or
righ frame until it overflowed onto the seats or until the top was opened
and it leaked in as the frame folded.
