I agree, he's GOOOOOD... The biggest reason he came up with this is large 2bbl progressive carbs don't really exist. At least not as large as this!
He also makes a good point, without EFI, one of the biggest issues with carbs and turbo engines is they have a wider flow range, idle to full power at redline than atmo engines. This makes carbs even more challenging!
If it were me, I'd do a pair of 32/36mm Weber progressives, one on each side, and do a blow through, if I were to stick to carbs.

Excellent point ! in fact there's a colleague?who rebuilds the
40 DCOE4 and sells them for around $250. However,
his knowledge of the
turbocharged corvairs is minimal.?
?
That's why I think it's imperative to?point out that?
Weber
(40 or 45 DCOE) are not a bolt on -
live happily ever after mod
:)
?
I maybe wrong, but is anyone running?the 40 DCOE4
without the following mod:
?
http://www.american-pi.com/corvair/html/DCOE_detail.html
?
The above mutation, costs?slightly over $300?and I
have no doubt
that the gentleman who runs that business is one of the most
capable corvair gurus out there.

Well, yeah, and this is BY FAR
the worst case scenario. Ebay can get you a used DCOE for a LOT less than
that, I've seen these Weber adapters come up from time to time, and air
cleaners for DCOEs are common as grass.
And there are other choices, a
2bbl downdraft adapter, and a Weber 40DCNF would work, etc.
Given that
Corvair owners are cheapskates (not an insult, a badge of honor!) there ARE
ways to do this less expensively. A LOT less expensively.

C5618 (40 DCOE WEBER TURBO CARB)
http://www.corvair.com/user-cgi/search.cgi?part=c5618
$758.10
---
C5124 (WEBER CARB ADAPTOR KIT)

$126.35

C5620 (WEBER TURBO AIR CLEANER)
http://www.corvair.com/user-cgi/search.cgi?part=C5620
$92.40
---
Total $976.85 -- now add a few bucks for shipping and
you'll quickly find that fixing and/or eliminating the problems with the YH?
is not always a 4 digit (1000 dollar) financial experiment :)
I've left
out the cost of the knock eliminator and/or water injection on
purpose.
In all of this, I "grant" that these parts could be found
cheaper and hence
my "Math" may?have some flaws
;-)
