<VV> turbo carbs - short & pricy :)

Well, yeah, and this is BY FAR the worst case scenario. Ebay can get you a used DCOE for a LOT less than that, I've seen these Weber adapters come up from time to time, and air cleaners for DCOEs are common as grass.
And there are other choices, a 2bbl downdraft adapter, and a Weber 40DCNF would work, etc.
Given that Corvair owners are cheapskates (not an insult, a badge of honor!) there ARE ways to do this less expensively. A LOT less expensively.

C5618 (40 DCOE WEBER TURBO CARB)
http://www.corvair.com/user-cgi/search.cgi?part=c5618
$758.10
---
C5124 (WEBER CARB ADAPTOR KIT)
http://www.corvair.com/user-cgi/search.cgi?part=C5124
$126.35
---
C5620 (WEBER TURBO AIR CLEANER)
http://www.corvair.com/user-cgi/search.cgi?part=C5620
$92.40
---
Total $976.85 -- now add a few bucks for shipping and you'll quickly find that
fixing and/or eliminating the problems with the YH? is not always a
4 digit (1000 dollar) financial experiment :)
I've left out the cost of the knock eliminator and/or water injection on
purpose.
In all of this, I "grant" that these parts could be found cheaper and hence my
"Math" may
have some flaws ;-)
