Question, is there a turbocharger that can be used to replace the original
one, as most have a much better bearing set up than the original bushed
unit and parts are really pricey. Jerry

I believe that there are two other items to consider (beside size). First
is cooling. Several newer units depend on engine coolant - usually water -
to assist in keeping the turbo within a certain heat range. Water is a rare
commodity in most Corvair engine compartments. Air pump vs. Air/Fuel pump.
The Corvair is a draw through system, most newer turbos are designed for
use with EFI systems and fuel never passes through the compressor. Just keep
these in mind.

Others will probably offer better specific suggestions.
