I was born and raised in Detroit and I can tell you with absolute certainty 
 that Detroit is surrounded by water (small lakes, and not too far from the 
Great  Lakes) and when it hits 95° with 95% humidity, you'd have to have 
had your  thyroid gland removed to need a heater.  I DON'T think Clark is a  
cretin.  Frankly, I moved from Detroit to Phoenix and thought the 115+°  
summer temperature was more comfortable than Detroit.
