Don't remember how I came up with this, but what I do is:

- Take the hose
- Squirt a little WD-40 on the ID of the hose
- Stick my arm through it so my hand is almost poking out one end
- Slip the clamp on the end of the hose
- Reach up and install it on the heater box. You can touch the edge of the 
heater box opening with your fingers and spread the end of the hose from the 
inside until you work it on
- Then install the engine end
