My personal view of AARP is as a direct mail advertising program that has 
the "advertise-ees" paying the postage through membership dues.  Yes, I'm a 
member now.  Joined around age 62 or so.

Like anything else, compare their offers to others that are available.  I 
knew they (Hartford) could not beat the rate on my present auto insurance, 
but sent for the quote anyway (more than once) to get the free 
calculator(s).
