<VV> Quick Steering Swap

I am in the process of swapping my '65 "slow" steering for a '66 quick steering setup. I have the steering box and column removed from the car. A couple of items have slowed me a bit. The bolt pattern being different, new holes must be made to accommodate. However, the original nuts for the column base plate are welded to the backside of the firewall. Someone once said one of those can be used for the conversion but two new locations must be drilled for the other two. So, does anyone know which can be reused? And how the heck do I get the other two weldnuts removed? I wasn't planning to pull the gas tank for this project! Or, can I leave the old weldnuts alone, drill my holes and bolt it up without using the '66 plate with it's 3 weldnuts? guidance would be appreciated. The other item is that boot or seal on the '66 shaft appears larger than the hole in the firewall the steering shaft passes through. Do most ream that hole larger or remove bearing block pin pressed through the steering shaft and then the boot/seal, reassembling after the column is mounted?
Hey, if anyone has step-by-step DIY instructions, I'm open to any guidance.

Thanks,

Steve
