The same comment applies to other consumer durables - they just can't be
built to the same standards as older ones any more, largely because the cost
base has gone up (labour and materials were cheap in real terms back then).

And don't forget that this was made in a war-ravaged country that just 5
years earlier had been virtually flattened (especially Bielefeld, where this
was made - one of my friends' dads helped do the flattening!).
