<VV> Corvair Curve?!

<The worst half-mile stretch of roadway in that section and in the Rim

[Arizona] is known as Corvair Curve, where there were 19  collisions last 
year...>
 
Since this appears to be in AZ, perhaps someone there could tell us where  
the name came from.
