<VV> Corsa Air Conditioning Question

I have the dealer A/C installation manual which lays out how to cut a
section from the dashboard support.
Unless that support is removed the A/C control panel can't be installed at
all.
I have removed that dash support per the installation manual and installed
the dash brace that's required after you cut out the original support.
The problem is the bottom of the tachometer housing which is touching the
top of the A/C fan lever when the control is screwed in place.
If I loosen the A/C control panel a little and let it drop down only a small
amount the switch will work properly.
I could probably remove the dash and dent the tachometer housing bottom a
little to get clearance but I really hate taking that dash out if there's an
easier way.
I'm pretty sure I have a '66 A/C control panel. Since A/C was offered in '66
does that mean that '65 and '66 Corsa tachometer housings are just slightly
different? I wonder. Anybody know?
Thanks for your ideas.
