Jim,
Remember that a BOV and a wastegate serve 2 different functions. The BOV is installed where the throttle valve is DOWNSTREAM of the turbo compressor to vent the compressed air during shifts. This prevents the compressed air from "backing up" against the closed throttle valve (assuming you don't shift at wide-open throttle<GGGG>) and causing problems with "stalling" the compressor. The wastegate, of course, just vents compressed air that is produced ABOVE the pressure limit set by the driver so the engine is not "over-boosted".
Frank P. can use the SafeGuard to "cover" any pre-detonation problems that appear BEFORE the water injection Aquamist can get the water flowing since the SafeGuard reacts almost instantaneously while it take time to get the water moving. I've always thought that a hydraulic accumulator in the water line would be able to HOLD the water pressure in reserve so it could respond VERY quickly once the water injection valve is opened and not depend on the water pump to have to buildup water pressure to move the water through the piping to the injection valve.

Hi Frank. Veeeery nice. Please keep us informed! Question. Are you planning to use a BOV or wastgate or will water/timing be the primary protection against detonation?
