I don't think front fenders have to weld in place, in order for the body
shell to be called a uni-body.
What's really important, is that there's not a separate frame under the main
body structure.
Think of the Porsche, a definite uni-body and it has front fenders that bolt
on, as do many other uni-body makes, since they're
more likely to need replacing, usually being the first damaged.
Come to think of it, Corvairs would have been much more serviceable with
bolt-on front fenders, too!
