I all.
The 180 is back to normal. The test drive went well. The idle mix screw was back to "around" 3/4 to 1 turn from seated. Smooth power delivery, good boost. Aside from the choke plate sticking in the full open position, all is well. Accel pump? Broken choke tang? Just a teardown/re-build?

Subject: Carter YH rich running UPDATE DOH!
Hi Carlton and VV land.
The carb was mounted and I finished the installation last night. I temporarily repaired the choke spring fork by bending up a heavy duty paperclip to the remaining tang. I was ready to start 'er up last night but it was raining here in MA. It took longer to assemble than I thought. While I was adjusting the float I found out it was half full of gas! A little explanation.
I had a leaking float 3 or so years ago. I put a small hole in the bottom of the float to remove the gas, dried it out, re-soldered the perimeter, and soldered over the hole.
When the carb first started messing up a couple of weeks ago I removed the lid. I always doubt myself and decided to open up that hole in the float to see if there was any fuel in it. Nope! So I re-soldered the hole and apparently left a small spot that allowed fuel in. DOH!
Sooo, maybe I created a problem! The float was emptied and re-soldered yesterday using an eyepiece to look for pinholes. New accel pump in. Before I start it up (hopefully tonight) I will heed Grant's warning on the wrong pump and check mine. I got it from Clarks so I feel I got the right one.

Duane,
Do you have a final update yet to your YH situation? I have been reading
with great interest.

Hi all.
Last night I took off and totally tore down the carb. Bottom line: no
clogged passages/ports. What I DID find out was that one of the two metal
"fork prongs" that holds the bi-metal choke spring was broken.
Interestingly enough, when the engine was running the choke worked
flawlessly. While running and hot when I looked inside for dripping the
choke was fully open. Perhaps the piece was occasionally interrupting
choke operation and jamming the plate? Tonight I will replace the accel
pump diaphragm, re-assemble, put the float back to 5/8" and put it back on.
Weather and time permitting, I will warm it up, twist the choke housing to
make sure the plate stays open, and see what happens!
