Scott and I have pulled the drums on the BEEF car and inspected the
conditions in preparation for Roebling Road. On the rear shoes we / I
have noticed the same wear pattern you refer to on your front brake
shoes. We have not yet checked the front brakes.
I wonder if this is somehow related to the shoes failing to rest
properly on the built-in "guides" on the backing plates. We are
supposed to grease these each time the shoes are replaced and often
there are ridges gouged into these "guides" from many many
linings being replaced without proper lubrication of this surface
area. This could cause a "cocking" of the shoes each time the brakes
are applied and the hotter the brakes became the more distortion or
sticking of the shoes would occur. It is an easily overlooked or
forgotten area of brake replacement when you are fooling with those
damn new springy things and washers and star
adjusters ;-) ..................... What say you TLH ????
