Even more important than the wiring to the release switch is the
installation of a safety catch so the hood won't fly open whilst in motion.
Ask me how I know about this. Luckily the damage was only bent hood hinges.

it was never a factory option , and if you put one on , make darn sure you
power it thru the neutral / backup switch!
i sold a lakewood quite a few years ago that i optioned up including a
power trunk....the guy hit the "mystery button" while traveling at a good
rate
of speed....results were a new windshield , trunk lid , and damage to roof.
i still hear about it at corvair events . i am kinda famous for adding
stuff like that to cars over the years..
