The VW transaxle is pretty much immune to direction of rotation. In  many 
years, it was sold and used by VW in both directions of rotation. It is the  
Corvair differential that is less able to carry a load in the reverse  
direction due to the ring and pinion design. Some years of VW transaxles cannot  
be reversed, due to side cover designs.
