Ohio seems to be very lax on year of car plates. I registered mine, with no
problem at all, then restored them. They have recently backed off and only
require one tag now for year of car registration.
I just got back from the Columbus Goodguys and with almost 6000 cars that
are 37 years old or older, you can notice trends and what is tolerated.
There are quite a few cars that have year of car tags that have tags painted
the same colors as their cars. One trend I noticed this year is people
running tags from totally different states than where the car is registered.
Other than the occasional illegal burn out pit, collector cars give law
enforcement very little trouble, so they aren't going to worry about what
tag you are running. If you are really worried, run legal tags to the event
you are going to, then change to your cool tags when you get there.
