I started with Fisher Body Engineering during the time of the Corvair and worked on several Corvair projects. I spent the majority of my years at the Fisher Body Headquarters building, Central Offices which is on the 'other side' of the tracks from the Tech Center in Warren, MI. All entrances were personed by the Security Division. In order to enter one must display an employee ID card or get a pass from Security. Should an employee forget his or her pass Security would issue one for the day. That was quite easy to do because they knew the faces of all the employees that regularly entered that door. If one should enter a different door, Security would take a good look at the ID card ... and, it was quite a bother to get a one day card.
Since the advent of the electronic security system, should the card be forgotten, all one needs to do is walk in with a group. There are no eyes to recognize intruders nor is there an individual to challenge such an intrusion. So much for technology.

Managers held to the white shirts for a while. Then dark shirts without ties including the managers. It was said that - back in the day - you could walk right into the GM Tech center if you dressed in dark pants, short sleeve white shirt with a narrow, dark tie, and held a clip board in hand, and looking serious. Machine readable badges surely put the final nail in that scam.
