<VV> Heat and Vapor Lock

My 62 sedan has a 140 hp engine running on two carbs. The trans is a PG. Currently I am experiencing extreme vapor lock. I make a short trip and my car is in trouble. It will start, run for a few minutes, and then stall. It will not restart until it has completely cooled again. Needless to write, this is really inhibiting using my car this summer. I am considering installing an electric fuel pump, but I would rather not. Any suggestions for dealing with vapor lock while retaining the mechanical pump?
