Hi Bill - This is exactly what we did in 2006, 2007 and 2008. But we
offered a 5% discount to National Corsa members. So far I think we are
the only vendor who has ever done that. We were happy to do that
because we have always been big supporters of Corsa. But I would be
remiss not to point out that asking vendors to do this is asking them to
take a signifigant financial loss for everyone else's benefit. I
estimate our Corsa discount policy cost us between $5,000 and $12,000 in
"lost" income over that 3 year period of time. So why on earth did we do it?
1) Obviously for advertising and "goodwill". I would be a rank liar if I
didn't say that - Of course it's success as a publicity move may not
have paid off all that well - for example you apparently didn't know we
did it (!) but...
2) It helped convince people to join Corsa, which is in our best
interest (In my opinion)
3) It helped support Corsa, an organization I've belonged to without
interruption for 35 years. I was fortunately in a position to do this
because of my business.
4) I hoped it would also increase our sales (see point #1). There is no
way to know if it did or didn't.
