Never said anything about anything being "mainstream"... just that 5-speed gearboxes WERE around then... just NOT in any American cars.    

That Cabriolet was NO fiasco.    It was a fun car that ran quite well and did everything just fine.   AND it looked Great!     Wish I still had it...
